Road works

Road works, premix paving and road maintenance

New roads, resurfacing, car parks and road repair — from a single driveway apron to JKR-standard carriageway maintenance across a whole district.

Overview

Roadwork is where Pretech started, and it is still the biggest part of what we do

Since 2008 we have laid, resurfaced and maintained roads for developers, main contractors and local authorities across Negeri Sembilan — JKR routes such as Jalan Pajam–Nilai, Jalan Seremban–Kuala Klawang and Jalan Dangi–Kepis–Bahau, industrial estate roads in Nilai, and internal roads for terrace housing schemes in Linggi and Chengkau.

Because road maintenance contracts are measured, tested and certified by the authority's engineer, the habits carry over: proper subgrade preparation, correct compaction, honest thickness. A driveway gets the same method as a trunk road, at the right scale.

We run our own paver, roller, backhoe and tipper lorries, so a small job does not have to wait for a plant hire slot.

How we work

How a job runs

Site visit and measurement

We measure the area, check the existing surface and subgrade, and note access for the paver and lorries.

Quotation by quantity

Priced per square metre with the premix thickness stated, so you can compare quotes fairly.

Preparation

Milling or scarifying where needed, base repair, compaction and tack coat before any premix is laid.

Lay, compact, hand over

Paving and rolling to the agreed thickness, edges finished, and the site cleaned before we leave.

Who we work for

Developers, councils, factories and house owners

Road work is unusual in that the same crew and the same machines serve very different clients — the difference is scale, not method. We are equally used to working under a main contractor's programme and to dealing directly with a factory manager who needs a yard resurfaced over a weekend.

  • Main contractors needing a road package sublet
  • Housing developers — internal roads and car parks
  • Local authorities and JKR/JPS maintenance contracts
  • Factories, warehouses and petrol stations
  • Schools, temples and community halls
  • Private owners — driveways, aprons and access roads
FAQ

Road Works & Paving — questions we get asked

How thick should the premix be?
For a driveway or light car park, 25–40 mm over a sound base is normal. Estate roads carrying lorries usually need 50 mm or a two-layer binder and wearing course. We state the thickness in the quotation — if a quote does not mention thickness, be careful.
Can you resurface without closing the road?
Often yes, by working half-width or at night. We have done night paving on live roads under authority contracts. It costs a little more but avoids shutting a business or a housing entrance.
My road is potholing again a year after it was patched. Why?
Almost always the base or the drainage, not the premix. Water sitting under the road destroys it from below. We will look at the drain and the subgrade before quoting a resurface, because resurfacing over a wet base is money wasted.
Do you do the drains and the road together?
Yes, and it is usually cheaper that way — the same machines and crew are already on site. See drainage works.
How long does a typical job take?
A house driveway is usually one day. A housing estate internal road runs one to three weeks depending on the base work. We give a programme with the quotation.
